BOOK-RELATED CRAFT:
Make Your Own Healing Star
-
Print a star coloring sheet online or draw your own. (This image is free to use. Author: Painter Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 License.)
-
Write your wish inside the star. The wish can be serious or funny. It can be for yourself or someone else. Some kids wish to go to Disneyland, play with friends, or have a lifetime supply of candy. Any wish is okay. And if you don’t want to share it with anyone, that is okay too!
-
Decorate your healing star. You can make it look shiny like a real star or simply illustrate your wish. Suggested materials: glitter pens, glow-in-the-dark or sparkly stickers, sequins, colored pencils, glitter crayons, markers, etc.
-
Optional: Use scissors to cut out the star.
-
If you do want to share your healing star and wish, you can send me an email with a photo of your craft to a.kiddwrites@gmail.com, post it on FB and tag me, or send me a message. I’ll share it on my Facebook author page.
-
You can also hang it in your window so other kids can see it when they take a walk. Let’s fill the world with good wishes!

BOOK-RELATED CRAFT:
Share Your Dreams Coloring Activity
-
Print a coloring sheet based on the cover of my book, Yasuko and the Dream Eater.
-
Write or draw a picture of your dream inside the box. You can either share the good dream that you want to keep or the bad dream you want the dream eater to gobble up. You can also include both!
-
Color the picture of Yasuko and the dream eater. Some kids use the same colors as the book to make the dream eater look like all its different animal parts: tiger, bear, elephant, rhino, and ox. But you can also make your dream eater unique. Perhaps rainbow-colored or your favorite color.
-
If you want to share your dreams, you can send me an email with a photo of your picture to a.kiddwrites@gmail.com, post it on FB and tag me, or send me a message. I’ll share it on my Facebook author page.
-
You can also practice "feeding" your bad dream to the dream eater, either by making a dream eater paper bag puppet or coming to one of my programs. Just know that the dream eater will always protect your good dreams!
